Cheerz Photobook Review and Giveaway

We take so many photos on our travels it was time to put them all in a book...

When we moved into our new house a few months ago our first thoughts weren’t on choosing paint colours, buying furniture and worrying about how much work the garden needed. No, it was where to put all our travel souvenirs, and what to do with all our 1000’s of holiday photos. As ever, we had our priorities right.

So when Cheerz asked us to review their photo books and canvas prints we said yes straight away. We’ve always wanted a coffee table style book full of all our favourite travel snaps, and with lots of empty walls a canvas seemed like a great idea.

Cheerz are an online company offering personalised photo books, wall art, calendars and fridge magnets, perfect for recording your adventures, whether they are from travelling around the world, or perhaps a wedding or special occasion. We of course chose travel, and spent a happy few hours deciding which snaps we wanted to feature. It was tough, but we finally managed to narrow it down.

Cheerz Premium Photo Book Review

We decided to try a Premium Photo Book, not just because it was the best of the bunch, and was hardcover with premium photo paper, but because it had lay-flat opening pages, which is something we haven’t often come across when using other photo book producers. It’s always annoying when an image spans across a double page spread but you can’t see the centre of it because the book is too thick to lay flat.

There are 4 different sizes of Premium Photo Book to choose from: square (21×21 cm or 29,6×29,6 cm), landscape (27,5×21 cm) or portrait (21×27,5 cm). The books fit from 13 to 240 photos and come with up to 60 pages (you can guess how many we had in ours!).

What we loved

The best thing about Cheerz is that it’s really simple to use, and understand. If you haven’t ever done a photo book before, some of the programmes out there can be a bit daunting, but we figured out how to use the Cheerz platform in just a few minutes.

It’s also really easy to upload photos, and there’s even a function that allows you to take images from your Facebook or Instagram feed, which certainly saves time trying to find your best shots. Because of course all your top ones will be up on Instagram. Some of our favourites from our travels around Alsace made it in…

Photos were easy to upload and arrange

If you’re short on time or aren’t feeling particularly creative, Cheerz has a function that will arrange all your images for you – all you have to do is upload them and then let the programme do the work. You can of course tweek the layout where necessary, but all the leg work will be done for you.

There is also some editing functionality within the photo book platform, and you can change the focus, tone and orientation of the images, as well as adjusting the zoom. We also liked that we could insert additional pages (quite cheaply too), because narrowing down our photo selection wasn’t easy…so we ended up with a whopper of a photo book, but that was okay because the pages all laid flat! There’s also a handy indicator to show whether the resolution of your image is good enough to look fabulous once printed – we had a few that weren’t up to scratch but wouldn’t have known without the indicator, and would have ended up with poor quality prints. Not what you want in a photo book.

What wasn’t so great

Okay so nothing is perfect, and whilst we loved the simplicity and easily navigable site, we were a little frustrated at the limited number of layouts available. For example we couldn’t have 2 full size images on opposite pages, and it wasn’t possible to insert independent text captions wherever we wanted, which meant we ended up having no text at all (some images would have had location captions whilst others would not). And talking of text, if you want a title on the photo book cover, it was only available in one placement.

Canvas Prints

We do like to proudly display some of our top travel moments around the house, and what better way to do this than with a canvas wall print? We chose a photo taken on one of our Scottish adventures, as it was bright and colourful and reminded us of fun times. There were 5 different formats to choose from, and they all come printed and mounted. All you have to do is hang them somewhere suitable. The quality of the print was good, and included the bleed around the edges to avoid those unsightly white bits.

The Verdict?

We were super impressed with the speed at which both the photo book and canvas were delivered, and with the finish quality of both products. Although we would perhaps have liked a bit more layout choice with the photo book, in reality it was actually quite good not to be overwhelmed with dozens of choices and confusing functions, and we completed the whole project in just a couple of hours.

I would create a memorable photo book for my kids to cherish. They love flicking through photos, so organising them into a book would be fab

I have so many photos on the computer that I have never printed off! Most importantly, we have an amazing family holiday to Florida a couple of years ago and I would love to finally get those photos printed and in a special album of their own

I would probably choose some family, including pets, photos from the last year. A sort of review of the year sort of thing.

My favourite day was my sons wedding. A military wedding, held in the gorgeous Officers Mess and the uniforms and swords for the guard of honour make the photographs well worth displaying nicely. My daughter has a passing out parade at Sandhurst in October as well so a double book of happy memories.
